The sky above was turning purple. Somewhere in the distance, a bird called. Jack leaned down. Alexandra rose up on her toes and they kissed softly, slowly, not because of a bet. Not because of a challenge, but because somewhere between the engine and the apology, between the daughter and the dream, two broken people had found a way to be whole.

 When they pulled apart, Alexandra rested her forehead against his. Emma’s going to be insufferable about this. Jack laughed. Yeah, she’s going to say she knew all along. She probably did. They stood there as the sun disappeared and the stars came out. And for the first time in years, Alexandra Hol felt like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
